Why do 60S, 80S, or 100S pure cotton bedding items you buy wear out and develop holes after just a few uses?
Because they are basically made from ordinary cotton, which is upland cotton.
The "extreme operation" of ordinary upland cotton: Ordinary cotton has short fibers (usually around 28mm–30mm), and the cohesion between fibers is insufficient. To forcibly spin it to an 80S fineness, factories must use a comber during the carding process to aggressively "scrape" away a large amount of short fibers (resulting in a very high waste cotton rate and increased costs), or add chemical sizing agents during production to increase strength.
An 80S fabric barely made from ordinary upland cotton may meet the standard of "high yarn count" on the specification sheet, but because the individual fibers themselves are not long enough and lack strength, its wear resistance is extremely poor, making it prone to pilling, thinning, and even developing holes after just a few washes. This is why some cheap "80S pure cotton bedding" on the market scraps out shortly after use.
