Here are the common fabric materials for down pillows on the market
Outer fabrics for down pillows generally fall into three categories: polyester, blends, and 100% cotton.
Polyester and blends usually dominate the low end down pillow market due to low cost. Materials like microfiber and chiffon (which are essentially polyester) make up about 80% of this synthetic market.
For pure cotton, the most common specs on the market are: 40S x / 200TC, 40S x 40S / 233TC, 40S x 40S / 300TC, and 60S x 60S / 400TC.
5 star hotels typically use 40S x 40S / 233TC down pillows. Better ones use 40S x 40S / 300TC. The highest end option is 60S x 60S / 400TC, which is less common because finer yarn counts wear out faster.
